Re-bounce

I just opened the most recent message on our Yogea channel, which read: “I love your hormonal balancing routines, but I don’t always have the time to play the video for myself at home. Can you give me just a couple of poses to do instead, and would they be as effective as the routine?”

Yes, and no. You can absolutely do the ten “raja” poses that would nourish all your glands. And they are handstand, headstand, plow, shoulder stand, fish, seated forward bend, rabbit, camel, reclining twist and eagle. But the order is important, and so are the transitions in and out of each asana.

A stimulating glandular sequence is more about the coherence and efficiency of the flow than the assuming of poses. It is done in a restorative pace while extending the breath and squeezing each gland and its accompanying organs.

This is one of my favorites. It is short and sweet, yet deeply nourishing and most of all very doable. I called it “re-bounce” because it works instantly and with regular practice will help you re-bounce from any endocrine imbalance that you are currently battling.

In an endocrine sequence I always love to justify my choice of poses and transitions to address each gland. Augmenting classical poses with innovative binds brings in the meridians power into the picture. Every gland in the body is associated with its respective meridians. Opening the meridians enhances the energy flow in each gland.

I like starting in camel pose because it gives the spine an opportunity to arch and curl, while stimulating the pancreas and adrenals. Then, a rabbit pose naturally counter balances the backbend and tunes the focus in, letting the pineal and pituitary glands kick in. Respectively, the two main meridians – the heart and the small intestine are stimulated, and the focus is on reworking or releasing emotions dumped in there from the past.

Once we release stuff, we need to seal the effect. That’s where a simple sphinx pose comes in handy. With a little thumping on the sternum, it catalyzes the thymus, thyroid and parathyroid glands and boosts the body’s natural defense shield. Adding a bound twist there instantly targets the kidney and spleen meridians and normalizes blood sugar levels. A gentle lift of the legs in locust bolsters the sexual glands, and clears any blockages from the second chakra

A pigeon twists then activates the detoxification of the liver. It promotes the assimilation of food, sponging in healthy nutrients and filtering out waste. This meridian of the large intestine opens to channel blood flow, and alkalize the gut.

To reap the rewards of the above poses, I like to leave the inversions for the wind down– countering shoulder stand and plow with supported bridge, and a deep forward bend with an invigorating yet soothing fish pose.

The dessert is a reclining bond twist. It gives the final squeeze and sends a signal to the hypothalamus that the hormonal resetting is done. The sequence has taken its effect. You feel deeply cleansed and nourished, more tranquil and whole. You have re-bounced back into wellness.
