Happy Hormones
There are two main feel-good hormones in the body – oxytocin and endorphins. Oxytocin is released during pregnancy to facilitate the bond between mother and child. Endorphins act as analgesics and sedatives. They are manufactured in our brain, spinal cord, and many other parts in our body and release in response to brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. It is the midbrain that sends signals to all the glands to secrete valuable hormones. They are not all labeled as happy hormones, but if they are secreted consistently they nourish all organs and boost all systems
What a wonderful design our bodies are – in and out. The question is how to keep those hormones happy at all times in order to stimulate the self-regulating mechanism that sustains and allows us to heal from within.
An avid follower of the Yogea channel asked me to design a hormonal balance routine that addresses the flow through the chakras. That was a great idea, because the chakras are located at central energy nodes and activate vital organs and glands. It feels truly intuitive to synch up the chakras with the hormones and to come up with a combined practice of breath control, retention and asana that promotes glandular secretion.
Think of it. The procreative glands, known as the testes in men, and ovaries in women are located around the first and second chakras which address issues with survival, sexuality and account for the body’s latent creative resources. In order to juice up creativity and facilitate healthy procreation we have to feel grounded and hooked into our subconscious.
Then the adrenals and the pancreatic glands are slightly higher around the third, and fourth chakras to activate “fight or flight” or regulate blood sugar levels in the body. Nurturing a sense of self-love and personal identity will allow us to get high on heartfelt desires without the least amount of stress and anger. It also means that peeling the false veils of identity of what we should or shouldn’t do, will help us accept whatever doesn’t come our way the way we wanted it.
Further, the thymus gland is located around the sternum and the parathyroid and thyroid glands right into the throat center, reminding us that our inner voice and fullest expression feeds on good metabolism and healthy immunity. Activating the throat and heart centers filters out relationships and daily agenda to what really matters. Speaking our truth makes us content and helps us live from a place of personal integrity.
Moreover, the pineal gland located in the midbrain regulates our sleep cycles and the production of melatonin so we can afford to rest the brain and elicit insight. The pineal gland is like the third eye of the unicorn that sees from within. It is an invitation to trust our instincts and hone our intuition.
And at the top of the tower stands the hypothalamus, the agent of the pituitary gland that navigates all the organs, systems and glands throughout. Isn’t it amazing that with a simple headstand we can reboot the entire organism in two minutes and give all the glands a smile?
This is your unique chance to experience a singular hormonal balancing sequence that will nourish your glands and fire up your chakras so you can be healthy and happy in body, mind and spirit!
